School Calendar Change

The Tift County Board of Education approved the 2014-2015 annual budget in June, including 4 days without pay for faculty and staff and 179 instructional days for students.

Due to a change in funding structure by the state, the TCBOE is now able to restore 1 instructional day for students, bringing back 180 days of instruction. The additional day for students will be October 16 (originally a parent/teacher conference day). October 17 (originally a student/staff holiday) will now be a parent/teacher conference day and student holiday.

The state of Georgia’s elimination of the birthday tax on vehicles purchased after March 1, 2013, produced unpredictable additional revenue in the school system’s General Fund (from which most salaries are paid) at the expense of the SPLOST fund. Before this change, tax on vehicles was collected as a sales tax included in the SPLOST budget. SPLOST funds are highly restricted and can not be used for instructional salaries.
